DRBIII questions for the pros
DRBIII is used for pretty much all of the diagnostics at the dealer.
Question: While I know DRBIII is propiatary to Mopar dealers, will a generic scan tool provide the same info? (I don't mean a code reader)
I fould a couple DRBIII's on ebay in the $1500 range but that's not going to happen. What would I loose by going with a generic scan tool.
Please school me .....
A little background. I was an NIASE (old school) fully certified mechanic in the 70's and 80's working at GM dealerships. I watched the first computers get installed in cars and had to work on those computer controled carburators. I was pissed when they told me I had to junk my test light for a new computer safe one. (which was, along with a VOM and a BFH, the only tools we had to diagnos those things.)

I bought one of these for OBD-II
http://www.ebay.com/itm/U480-Univers...item1c220b08fb
I got it for 4.99 with free shipping, but it looks like they've gone up a bit in price.
While it can't do all the fancy monitoring, it's paid for itself time and again already.
Reading the code(s) and being able to reset them after repairs is always nice.
