door locks
 

ok, this one may require me to just replace some stuff but im just wanting to know if anyone out there can help me fix this problem or maybe know what exactly i need to buy. i have 3 questions. i got a 1990 cherokee.
1) when you put the key in the driver door lock it wont turn either way..any clues?
2) i cant even get the key to go in the passenger side lock?? the guy i bought it from swears it worked last time he tried.
3) when i press the electric door lock button it makes a noise and the locks move but they dont lock or unlock, i dont even know what to make a that..???
i really hope these arent dumb questions but i would really love to be able to unlock my doors.lol. so any help is really appreciated.

The round key is for the doors and the square one is the ignition. Do you have both?

Do the locks move, but not all the way over to unlock/lock it? if thats the case than you've got the common door lock problem. Its because of the way the doors were wired and temperture seem to effect them too. Heres a write-ups about it

if some simple wiring doesn't bother you, its an easy fix. You could have some broken wired, maybe too. I had two broken wires on my door harness when I got my XJ.

Simple questions like this can be figured out using the search function on the top right, its seems buggy sometimes, just reload it. Google is also great because you can search multiple forums and websites, I just typed "xj door lock" and found the link I gave you. Also as a general rule, only post a question when you can't find an answer by searching...keeps things tidy around here:cheers:

Same thing here, all doors have to be manually locked and unlocked. Drivers and passengers doors do the exact same things. I'd like to hear a solution as well. And maybe something on why only my drivers window rolls??

you know, thats what i thought too but he said it only had one and swore he used the key he gave me to unlock the passenger side door

ya they move like there gonna lock/unlock but dont. i was hoping it was a normal thing.

i def dont mind wiring(or pretty much anything else that means i dont have to spend more money.ha)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression of the forum is that the goal is not just to create an encylopedia of all things XJ but to provide fast answers to specific questions.

I've searched the archives many times looking for an answer and read through tons of useless conversation to find what I need and wound up disappointed. Sometimes, especially if you've got grease on your hands and a wrench in your back pocket, you just need a fast answer so you can get your project done. And searching Google can be an exercise in irritating futility wasting time reading moronic posts on "ehow", etc.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have a lot of life to juggle - kids, work, SWMBO - and I need fast help from the experts on this forum sometimes. I try to repay by chipping in an answer once in a while when I think I can contribute. This is especially true when somebody first acquires an XJ. Everything is new and there are always problems that need fixing right now.

Again, please correct me if I'm wrong about this. I don't want to annoy anyone with questions but I'm thinking that if an archive search doesn't kick out an on-point answer in five minutes, it's time to ask a new question.
