Door key? 1989 Cherokee
 

I was only given an ignition key with my 1989 Jeep.

Just called my local dealer asking parts department if they could make key with VIN and/or bringing Jeep to dealership.

Guy on the phone said "negative" and recommended a locksmith.

I was thinking the Jeep dealership should be able to do that.

Is a locksmith the best suggestion to get door keys for the vehicle?

The cheapest option is to replace the door lock cylinders yourself. The replacement door lock cylinders with keys are $13 at O'Reilly's.

OK, that seems reasonable.

I can't find a way to open the rear hatch/door without a key. I assume it's just my ignorance as I've been focused on seeing if the Jeep can run reliably, before dealing with the interior/other issues. (Like the locks.)

I'm not sure how to take off the trim panel to get to the hatch lock, without the hatch door open...

Hopefully I'm missing something simple and there's a release I've overlooked (all suggestions welcomed!)

They were able to cut the key via the VIN on my 95 at the dealer. But an 89 they may not have the records for anymore.
