door hinge weld broke

okay. so my door hinge weld broke. i know there is threads about this. but is there a way to weld it back to the body without removing my door? or should i just remove the door and have it welded

i was able to grind the (enough) paint off of mine to weld the hinge back on with it in place, it only took a few minutes with the mig welder.

i dont see a reason to take the door off

well it looks like someone would maybe have to hold the door up and push in to give it slack for it? i have a top hinge and a bottom hinge. and the bottom if peeling away. and my door hits my front fender when opening.

sounds like the wind grabbed the door real bad? lol

yours might be a little worse than mine was but as long as you can push the hinge back into place i dont see why you would have to take the door off still.

Mine's the same way. I plan to remove the fender, then weld in some steel plate around the hinge

i honestly dont know how it happened. but it broke the weld. and i bend my front rear of the fender opening and closing the door.

it works!

I have a 93 Cherokee country and the top hinge on drivers side ripped off weld to body.

I ordered part number 05083061AA online and completed section B of the PDF and it works like a charm. Used self tapping sheet metal screws instead of excessively large rivets to connect to body. It's been over a year and it works fine. Click the link for the PDF

or cut and paste in your browser to get to it

Print it out! No instructions come with part.
Didn't even have to take door totally off. just wiggle it around to get to drill holes for plate. Works great now.

how much was the kit? I need to do this to mine... also, once you install it, can you still modify your hinges to make the doors removable?

Kit Link?

Basslicks Jul 4, 2012 12:15 AM

I've been searching all over for a link for the kit. The impression that I'm getting from every other forum that I've searched is that you have to order it directly from the dealer. No one is saying how much though so that's kinda got me nervous.

the reason this happens is door hinge binds uppon it self b4 door stop stop the door i cut my hinges slightly so the catch gets fully extended b4 hinge binds uppon it self no issue ever since.

Basslicks Jul 4, 2012 12:24 AM

yeah, i plan on doing that to mine... but once the damage is already done, you have to fix it before preventing it from happening again :)
