Door chime
I just bought a 99 cherokee sport. I see a ton of people ask how to disable the door chime when you leave the key in the ignition or leave the lights on and open the door. My question is how do you get that chime to work. All of my other electronic's work as they should just no door chime when the driver door is open. I would like the annoying sound to come back lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated

So after taking a drive, I opened the door with the jeep still running. Shut off the key and for a split second it started to chime. Then shut stopped again. I have not been able to get it to do it again.. This is really starting to bother me now.... what could it be??

The "Key In" switch is part of the Ignition Switch. A Green connector with two wires - Light Blue and Black/Light Blue tracer. The Light Blue wire comes from the instrument cluster.
The chime generator is installed on the instrument cluster printed circuit board.

So what should I check for? To see if the keysense wire has power when the key is in the ignition? But then again, What about the chime for leaving the lights on and opening the driver door. That's also not working. My dome lights are working fine tho. Do you think it could be the doors pin switch.

Leaving the key in and leaving the head lamps on to get a chime are two different functions. The key in is a function of the ignition switch Key-In switch and headlamp is a function of the headlamp switch.
Power originates at the chime control in the instrument cluster. The chime is looking for a ground, through the various switches, including the door switches.
Here's some diagrams you can study.

I have the same issue with my '97
Seems like troubleshooting this would start with swapping in a known working instrument panel and going from there.
I just bought one of those mini jumpstarter things and keep it in the Cherokee for when I eventually leave the lights on. Seems easier lol.

Old fart with a wrench
SO...your saying I can disconnect the Key-In switch and still have the Headlights-On warning trip the chime? Good deal! I hate when I'm sitting listening to the radio and open the door, having the world know about it!

no the switch is fine since the dome light comes on with the open door
its likely the instrument panel
So far the little teeny miracle jump starter has been worth its cost and then some
Ive had to use it twice, both times from leaving the lights on.
I can’t believe something he size of my hand has enough umph to turn over an old cold straight 6 with a completely discharged battery, in the winter at 10F

Mine was simply corroded inside so would never work again. Retrofitted a chimer from another car in to only chime with lights on, ignition off only.
