Default Door-Check(s) "pop" - How to fix?

I first replaced with an after-market... Then new from my local Chrysler-dealership. They still "pop". Help?

Did you replace everything? Pin, door check, and bracket? Did you still have the little plastic washers with the cut out around each pin? 2 of those for each door.

Humm... I don't seem to see the plastic-washers you speak of on the attached parts diagram?

I did not see them either and if it wasn't for the fact that I still had one, out of 2, on one of the doors I did I would not have know either. That is when I looked at the back door and saw them. When the hole in the bracket gets wallowed out and the pin gets loose they can fall out easy I guess. Cause of the cut out I suppose. Factory on left. Hardware store replacement on the right.

Edit. Mine is an '00 by the way. Might be different on an '87.

They need lube. Open the door and slobber some grease on it. then close/open the door 10 times then grease again then open/close a bunch of times.

I would still suggest lubing them up even brand new.

What happened was I did my driver's side first. No washers there. I noticed that the arm on the door check could be a little up or down on the pin. Really did not think much of it. Then I did the passenger side. Which is where the one washer was. That is when I thought to myself "Oh yeah huh. That would keep it straight and more in position."

Went shopping... Sorted thru all the tubes of grease... And finally found a can. Door-check(s) all greased up!

Glad it worked out for you. I am going to have to go in and slobber some grease on mine to just to be safe like TrailerTrash said.

Seems like a lot of compensation for a bad design. Now greased and spaced. The chrome-pins just do not appear to be doing the job.

Back to the store... Found some solid-pins with a top-lip that fit snugly into the hinge-hole(s). Some improvement.

Removed the pin... Replaced with a tip-threaded smooth-shaft bolt... These I had in-stock. Secured with a nut. More improvement.

Observed the tighter I tightened... The quieter the "pop" became. Tightened until the loud "pop" was silenced. Again... Compensation for a bad design.

So... A BIG thank-you for getting me this far!

I do hear a dull "snap" sound with the door-check move between positions. I first thought of going to my local Walmart to find other Cherokees of the same with un-locked doors to compare sounds... Then I thought better.

Question: Do your Cherokees have a dull "snap" between door-check positions?

Went outside to check. I would not call it a dull snap but there is a noise of some sorts and a momentary increase in resistance that I associate with the noise. Hope that makes sense.

After how bad the driver's door was this is nothing. As matter of fact I always thought my passenger sided door was fine until I replaced the drivers side and saw how smoothly it was supposed to be. So my OCD got the better of me and I did that side too.
