Does my temp look normal?

The Jeep is fully warmed up... so much so that my oil pressure seems to have fallen. I was sitting at a light and thought I would snap this shot. Does the temp look right to all of you? What is my temp on this part of the gauge? This is where it sits when I drive.

the tstat may be lower than the stock 195. Mine runs like that too, i think it may be stuck open or something. Is your heat warm at best?

XJ5150 Feb 10, 2011 01:11 AM

My heat is hot as the fiery pits of the underworld... but ONLY when I am driving. If I am sitting at a light the heat is warm at best yes.

i just wish my gas gauge was that high :)

THe factory gauge is kinda crappy for being accurate. the only way to test is to get an aftermarket gauge($20) and try it to see what you run.

Looks low to me. Presuming your gauge is numbered 100, 210, 260, I would think this time of year and your location, the needle would be just a tick to the left of 210, presuming u have a 195 t-stat, your gauge is accurate AND everything else in the cooling system is functioning normally/correctly.

XJ5150 Feb 10, 2011 12:40 PM

When I let it sit and warm up or I am parked with the engine running the gauge will climb to just right of that 210 mark and then drops fast to the 155 area and will sit there as I drive. Again, if I park it will climb until I start moving. Seems normal to me I guess... I am guessing there is going to be a delay from the time the Tstat opens and begins cooling to show on the gauge so I am guessing the stat is near a 190 degree range. Maybe I have superior cooling lol. Also, the temps here in the day time have been in the 40's, lower at night.

Don't worry... it's a droppin lol

my temp gauge looks the same...it does go up while sitting at idle, but that will take a few mins and it goes back down once the tstat opens up and aux fan kicks in.

looks normal to me.

dukie564 Feb 10, 2011 01:27 PM

looks normal to me. Especially in the wintertime. Mine is exactly the same at operating temp this time of year.

red_dog007 Feb 10, 2011 02:24 PM

That is what mine looked like, but I recently replaced my tstat. A 180degree was in there, and I slapped back in a 195. It sits a touch before 210 now.

djb383 Feb 10, 2011 03:35 PM

Folks, 155F coolant temp ain't normal. U either have no t-stat, a whacked t-stat, a whacked temp gauge/sensor/wiring or a combo of whacks. Again, this time of year using a 195 t-stat, the gauge s/b in the middle, maybe a tick less.

dukie564 Feb 10, 2011 03:38 PM

looks like "a tick less" to me, right around the 183 mark.

hercman Feb 10, 2011 04:22 PM

The temp shouldn't fluxuate that much between sitting idle and moving. That's the purpose of the tstat. I'm betting the tstat is stuck open.
