Engine: 2.5 4 cyl.

does my cherokee have a timing belt or chain?

i have the 2.5L I4 with the 5 speed manual, i know on my old 89 yota i had a chain, but i wasnt sure it was the same for all manual transmissions.... but what i do know is if i have a timing belt than its about time to change it

Chain, only the deisel has a belt.

I too had a 2000 Tacoma 4cyl 4x4. It had a chain also as you know. Love chains, belts SUCK!!!

i KNOW! i mean theres to much of a chance for me mess something up so i always have a shop do it...and that costs like 1000 or so...rediculous

Try doing one in a 96 accord. 2 belts, timing and balance belt. Took me 7 hours. Honda wanted $1300 to do it...

I can do the one on my 2004 Subaru in under an hour, the dealership wants over $500.

mitsubishis have 3 on some of their little 4 cylinders. bmw e30s use one and so do the old isuzu troopers.

its funny, the only time bmw ever tried the belt on an engine and its the best selling bmw ever made in history. that belt is the one downfall for the model and htey removed it and went back to a chain for the next model 3 series which never sold as well.
