Do Grand Cherokee Seats Fit a Cherokee?

I've got a chance to put leather power seats from a 2001 GC into my 96 Cherokee - what's the procedure to getting them in there?

1990-1999 ZJ seats will fit, front and rear. But you either have to swap the seat bases or drill new bolt holes in the floor, in front. For the rear you have to trim some seat foam. The 2001 is a WJ, and WJ seats will fit the ZJ with minimal modifications, so I'm sure they could be Made to fit the XJ.

No, No, No. 93-98 GC's are ZJ's. 99-04's are WJ's.

ZJ seats will fit easily in 95-01 XJ's. All that's needed for the fronts is to swap your current rails and mounts (4 bolts hold these to the seat) over to the ZJ front seats. The back seat (60/40 split) is more involved, but not hard. The link to my write up is in my signature.

WJ seats can fit, but they require more modification to the front mounts and the rear seat.

84-94 XJ's require seat mounts to be fabbed to fit ZJ seats due to a different floor design.

Your write-up is one of the sources I was thinking of in my answer, among others. point is It can be done, and is really not all that hard to do. Even after having 3 ZJs 93 and 97 and a WJ 00, I have always gotten the dates wrong. "wrangler" dates really get me, and I've had 2 CJ 5&7, a YJ and a TJ.

Yeah, the CJ dates are a pain to keep straight. Wranglers aren't too bad (YJ's TJ's, and JK's are the only ones with the actual "wrangler" name). You're right though, it's not hard to do and it's well worth the driving comfort you get. I can't tell you how many times I've thanked myself for doing the rear 60/40 seat as well. Being able to just fold down part of it is great for those hardware store trips.
