Default Disassemble seat 1996 xj sport

I have a newly acquired 1996 Cherokee sport. I noticed that the driver seat listed to the left. I thought it just needed padding but when I pulled the seat

out I noticed that the wires that go across the bottom of the seat are pretty much all broken, see picture. I looked through the stickies but I could not find anything on how to disassemble the seat cushion from the back. Local upholstery shops seem to be backed up so I thought I’d give it a try myself. Any help would be appreciated. MIKE

i got a 1990, different, but had problem the seat bolster was wrong on the seat back on one side, seat was loppsided. so i removed the covers, then slipped off the foam, and found the steel wings (on which the foam slips over) of the bolster were broken at the welds. rewelded, added some gussets to prevent rebreakage, and put it back together, it was not apparent how to remove back from bottom until the cover was removed. i suggest removing seat covers to expose the connection. you may only need to pull the covers back part way to see what you got to do.

ps... the black plastic lever likely pulls off, held on shaft by friction I had to pry mine off on my 1990 (different style seat) using a big screwdriver and some wood strips to protect fabric from screw driver.

yes, I have the back loose from the seat ....but for that black lever.....I believe it has spring tension on it....cannot seem to get it loose. I wonder if I should fool with the spring that seems to be related to the lever that controls seat back angle?

well.....I did not have to remove the lever at all. Just slip off the seat cover around the lever, the hole for the lever was large enough that I could slip it off...no problem. Glad I did not force the plastic handle and break it. Now to fix the boltster and wires......Mike
