Nobody here will endorse driving it with fuel in the crankcase.

You may have some bad injectors. any check engine lights?

Thought about that this morning that no one would tell me to drive it. No check engine light. Drove it this morning, gears slipped a bit when cold then was ok. I'm going to take it asap to get diagnosed.
Thanks for the response,
Mill

You'll wipe out bearings having gas in your oil. Continue driving it and you'll be replacing/repairing that engine.

Just thinking out loud here, but whats the mileage and when was its last oil change? An engine with enough wear on it will let some gas past the rings and into the crankcase. The XJ is a loose fit anyway until it reaches operating temperature and the rings start to seal. If youve got a leaking injector, thats more gas. If you make a lot of short trips where the engine doesnt reach operating temperature, any contaminants in the oil may not burn off. All of that can cause what you are experiencing. Check/change the plugs and change the oil and check the fuel pressure. A leakdown test, even. That should tell you if the rings/cylinders are still sealing.
