Differential help please

Rear differential done for and can't afford a new one. All junkyards around me don't have an exact match. I have a1988 xj 4 door 4x4 with 4.0 automatic and Spicer Dana 35 with a gear ratio of 3.55. Can I take the gears from any Dana 35 that has the same 3.55 ratio and put them in mine to rebuild my differential??? I'm only talking about the gears and carrier not the housing or the axle. This I believe is my only chance to get my only vehicle back on the road.

I was driving down the freeway when the pumpkin cracked resulting in all gear oil loss and gears being chewed up.

I'm planning on welding the pumpkin closed

if the donor axle is exactly the same you can use the spider gears i dont see why not, the carrier gears are worn into each other with the pinion gear putting a donor on that wihtout replacing the pinion i cant tell for sure but think you will have heck of a time to get that smoothly running.

Marc

im not an expect on this only done one rebuilt like that myself on a chrysler 8.25 someone else might have better suggestions

How EXACT a match are you looking for? Same rearends for most years. They're as common as belly buttons.

I have a Dana 35 with posi and 3.55 gears in Prescott.

AMC Salvage doesn't have one? 623.937.5899

What year?

jbyrdd Apr 19, 2018 08:09 AM

93. Bolts right into an 88.

It made both to it but I was told that it has a 1 inch longer Drive Line so that kind of messes everything up. From my understanding he can only come from an 8788 or 89.

Dana 35 from any year XJ bolts right in.

Chrysler 8.25 is 1" longer and requires? a shorter driveshaft.

I'll gladly let mine go for $200.
