Hi all, So I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee Sport that has a maximum speed reading of 85 MPH, I recently bought a 94 Cherokee SE that has a maximum speed reading of 115 MPH. Not that I would want to drive my Cherokee
over 80 anyhow.. But..any body have any idea why the 30 MPH difference ?? That's a lot...

I know my 95 Jeep Cherokee Country's speed limit goes to 85 and I am barely running 2300 rpm's at 70.... The difference might just be the speedometer display.

They did do different speedometers with different trims. There is no mechanical difference between the two so I'd assume it's just the different trims level dictating different speedometers. Does seem odd though
These are the Mopar build codes (on the build sheets I got from FCA/Jeep) I could find for associated speedo readings:
JCAS = 85 MPH Speedometer (this one is used on my '96 SE)
JCBS = 120 MPH Speedometer
JCDS = 100 MPH Speedometer (this one is used on my '98 Classic)
JCES = 140 MPH Speedometer
As far as I could tell, only the JCAS and JCDS codes were associated with the XJ.
JCDS is a Liberty build code
JCES is Dodge marque models' build code
FYI, based on a 3.55 rear diff ratio, and factory 225 75r15 tires on an XJ with a 4.0 and AW4, the max speed (based on 5300 RPM redline) is ~124 MPH
At one point I had an entire BIG-*** sheet of Mopar build order codes and now I can't find it...
