Diff gaskets and fluid, decisions and opinions?
Eventually I'll be installing the Spartan locker I just bought in my D30 (stay focused, this isn't an exploding D30 thread!!) and am seeing quite a variety of reccomendations online. So I'm asking for help, online, sounds legit.
Diff cover gasket! $4 tube of RTV, for multiple uses, most affordable. $4 FelPro gasket, cheap enough and it's a trusted gasket brand. $20+ LubeLocker, damn that's expensive, but if it's worth it...
Gear oil! Factory spec, because factory says? Heavier, because lunchbox locker?

This stuff does everything.
As for gear oil, run heavier weight. Some locker companies will recommend you a weight

Ask your locker maker what to run with it,I'm cheap and lazy i have always used rtv,But some make a reuseable gasket so if you want to keep the jeep a long time maybe get one of those.

I have installed aftermarket differential covers on my D30/Chy 8.25 that both have drain plugs on them. That way I can drain the fluid when in water (a lot) without pulling the cover. That way I only pull them once or twice a yr. depending to check everything else out.
All I use is RTV and the weight of fluid depends a lot on your driving among others.
If you look closely at the photo you can see the drain plug on the bottom center of the cover, you can all kinds of covers with them in different materials.
