To me, it would depend on how you use it. If it is a dd or mild offroader, something like amsoil or royal purple would probably work good. However, if you use it hardcore offroad, where you get it wet and have to drain it often, probably something cheaper that you can afford to keep buying, but is at least still decent. I used Royal Purple or Amsoil in different vehicles, kind of expensive but considering a DD would change it on average every 5 years (figure 12000 miles a year, every 60000 miles), i'd rather spend a little extra for peace of mind.

All that's required is that the gear oil you use meets GL5 specs, which pretty much all brands do. All your paying for is the name when you get the more expensive brands, same goes for any other automotive fluid.

The only thing that I really care about brand or details on would be engine oil. Higher zddp is better for the cams in these motors. Other than motor oil, as long as it is the correct type of fluid brand doesn't really sway me one way or the other.

Yep, I will agree that just about any diff fluid will work fine for a Jeep. Now if it was a full on road race car or an ultra 4 off road vehicle, different story. Lots more heat and pressure is being made. At that point you will be looking for a fluid with different additives that deal with heat and pressure better.

Where it is cheapest. When I swapped over from conventional to the VV975 I bought it from Pep Boys.
Was $10 a quart and had a 30% off promo code. Bought 6 quarts to do the job. Thinking it is about 4 quarts and some change
to do the job but I figured I needed some to have in stock. LOL.

Clearly you"ve never been to the BobIsTheOilGuy website and researched rear diff fluids. There are plenty of them that are worthless crap. For me, my XJ is a daily driver, family vehicle, tow with it, long trips, etc. Its worth it to me to spend a few dollars more for a better quality gear lube, or trans fluid, or motor oil.
