I can not get a clear answer on what Trans I have on my 96 4.0 Auto, or what trans fluid to use with it? What do the experts say?

Most common answer seems to be AW4 and DexIII?

You have an AW4 since your past the Renix years.

X2. Fluid would be 4 quarts of Dexron III.

Thanks guys, when doing the fill , drain, fill method, do I wait untill the end to pull the pan and replace the filter or do that first then use the drain plug rest of times?

ALL of the 4.0s with auto had AW4s, Renix or not.

Unless you want to be doused with fluid, drain the pan first. Whether you want to pull the pan to clean or change the filter is up to you.

Dexron III/Mercon was the spec fluid.
