diagnose front speaker problem
I have a jeep cherokee 2000 (not grand)
I did some searching some common problems for this car is the front speakers quit working....
Some say it is because the wires get snapped on the door hinge, others say because of corrosion on the end of the speaker plugs.
Well, I opened up both door panels and removed the speakers.
I've tested both speakers to a home stereo system, and they both work fine.. so it's def. the wiring.
On the driver's door, the ground (black) cable was indeed snipped by the door, so I connected it back and soldered it, taped it up.
Now I ran my voltmeter across pos and neg on the wire that goes to the speaker, I get 0 volts..
So I assume it's because the other side's wire is snipped too, perhaps they're connected together..etc.. so I need to fix both speaker wires before testing..
Well I inspect the right side's speaker wires, and I don't see any cuts or snips, both the pos and neg are in 1 piece.
I run my voltmeter on this side's wires, and they also get a 0 reading...
What's going on? Do I have a fuse blown because of the snipped wire that was before?
Is there even a fuse for the front speakers? I couldn't find it...
Anyone knows how to diagnose this problem?
Thanks.

I had the same problem. I had two wires going to each speaker. If yours is like mine, the connector that plugs into the speaker has two wires coming out of it . look for another broken wire.

Is the radio on while youre trying to measure voltage? What I would do is use a digital multi meter that checks resistance (ohms) and check for wire continuity that way. I've repaired a broken wire in the boot of my dads 99 xj twice now... Its a pretty common issue

If its a fuse then none of the speakers would work. Not just the fronts. And if it were the fuse, I would take that as a sign of other problems.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yes I did make sure the radio was on when I checked for voltage on the wires going to the speakers.
I didn't check for resistance..but it shouldn't matter, it should have a voltage reading above 0 volts as well as resistance.
The only snipped wire I found was the ground on the left front speaker. The right side didn't have any sniped wiring. I took off all the tape around it and traced it as far as I could go past the hinge of the door.
Fuses and relays are something that's a little fuzzy to me...
I opened the hood and looked in the "fuses and relay box" I assume the big square huge plugs on the left are the relays, I have relay plugs for "REAR 02" and "FRONT 02"
I take these to be relays for the front and rear speakers? or perhaps all electronics in the front and the back? not sure about this...
Now you said that a fuse was blown in the head. Do you mean a fuse blown in the actual radio or in the fuse box?

Do you have an aftermarket or factory head unit? Fuse for the factory unit is in pass. Kick

I really wanted the front speakers in my '99 jeep cherokee to function too.
The night before our big road trip, after also hearing that front speaker wires failing in jeeps were common, I just attached new speaker wire from the back of the stereo to the speakers. Tucked the new wires out of the way best I could and everything's fine.
I suppose you could snip the wire at the speaker, fasten it to a new wire and bring it through the housing by pulling the old wire from the back of the stereo.

yeah there is a fuse in the back of your radio its self. Check that. Then check the wires behind the radio going to the Front Left speaker and Front right speaker, Go look online for your year model jeep and Get a radio wiring diagram and then voltmeter those wires.
