Death Wobble Cure?
Hi gang,
I think you should just convert over to leafs in the front, and use a square driveshaft as well.

Well converting to leafs in the front is completely impractical and will not correct his wobble. Additionally YJ wranglers have leafs in the front and many of my YJ friends would not consider their ride "crappy".

Not a crappy ride? Have you ever driven in a YJ?

How is it impractical? If you are swapping in a full width D44 or D60, then this is the easiest way to go. And as far as solving his death wobble issue. If you redesign your entire front end, you will undoubtedly solve this very elusive and almost non-existent death wobble condition.

I really liked your writeup on the driveway paint jobon your TYJ.
Maybe someday I could ride in it.

I know it's been done, but I'm not sure it's practical. The nose on an xj is so short it would be tough finding a spring that's short enough. If you notice, a yj's front spring extends past the core support. Since we don't have frame horns extending past are core support to mount a spring to, you would have to design a frame for the front. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'd love to see some picks of it done.

Does anybody want a answer to the death wobble question or are we gonna debate coil vs leaf springs?
Death wobble can be caused by a variety of sources. First and easiest is to check for wheel balance. When we pack mud onto our wheels the mud that leaves the wheels at speed tends to dislodge the weights that keep our wheels balanced. Second is worn components such as the TRE or the Control Arm Bushings or CAB, these are more difficult to diagnose as they appear to be fine even with a pry bar but their replacement often solves DW. Last I would also look at the trackbar. The trackbar keeps our front axle in place in the center of the vehicle. The bushing on the axle end often gets worn and also is a cheap fix but a press is frequently needed to press the old one out and a new one in. Check the bolt hole for egging as well the bolt getting loose will tend to wobble out the bolt hole and that in itself can cause DW.
Now as to the leaf vs coils I will leave that inane discussion to you guys.

mmm, loss of approach angle
axle wrap
less useable flecks
and when swapping axles you have the options of :
welding on link mounts and coil buckets to new axle.
or
fabricating leaf spring mounts/ subframe, finding some usable leaf springs with the characteristics you want, then welding perches to the axle.
whats easier now?
