This dang jeep
1990 Jeep cherokee. Ran great for 3 months after i bought it and put a new fuel pump in it. Then about a week ago I ordered a lift kit for it. While waiting on the lift I was pulling a trailer with it that had a riding mower on it, after pulling the trailer for about 10 miles the jeep began spitting and sputtering like it was losing fuel. Exactly the same thing that happened when the fuel pump went out the first time. So got me a new fuel pump installed found the fuel pump ground (beside the motor?) and plugged it in. Cleaned my TPS and the jeep did burnouts. Ran great. Then my lift came in and i was headed to my buddys house to put the lift on when suddenly it just died. I was going about 30 mph down a dirt road. While driving i noticed that it was acting like it wanted to stay in the highest gear. Even going up hills it wanted to be in 4th. So I stopped dropped the shifter down to 1-2 and took off and it ran fine. Put it in 3rd took off and thats when it died. Any Ideas? This dang thing is avoiding being lifted I swear.

Is the fuse blown to your Transmission Control Unit?
How did you "clean" your TPS?

A tps just needs to be adjusted not cleaned with carb cleaner. It's an electrical component. If you have a 5 speed I would put an auto tps in it and if it's auto I'd pull one from a junkyard and see if it makes a difference by changing it.
