If you are working on the 88 in your profile then you have non-C Clip axles. the bearing has to be pressed on and off using a shop press. The retaining ring that is on the holds the bearing, seal, and backing plate all on the shaft. You may have the wrong bearing on the shaft and have to resort to cutting it off. take some pictures of the shaft and the bearing assembly.

Slide hammer ? Are you talking about getting axles out of housing? If so theres four bolts that hold them in the housing. Now bearing off the shaft different story.

Apparently i have been using the incorrect type of bearing puller. Just broke all of the rollers out of the bearing with no progress.

If the bearing has not been done in a wile try heating up the outside of the axle tube and then get at it again with the slid hammer. I have pulled them out with a BFH and a screw driver before. You can some times get the bearing race to rotate in the housing and then pull it out that way.

If only the outer race is left, then run a bead of weld around the inside of it(where the rollers were). When the weld cools, it will fall right out.

Well, not long after I posted originally I brome my foot and couldnt work on the damn thing. I finally got cleared to walk and lift, had tonuse the shaft to beat the bearing out. In the process all my diff carrier gears fell out. Now I am debating whether to grt the diff rebuilt jist to get it back on the road, or to get the dana 44 I have rebuilt to go under the damn thing.
