I've got a 91 XJ and I'm planning on putting 33's on it. I've got a 3.5" lift and I've already trimmed the fenders back 2" on the back and about 3" on the front and I'm about to trim the front fenders a little more. I know I need to regear my axles. I've got a Dana 30 on the front and a Dana 35 on the back. What do you guys reccommend?

What will be your main use of the Jeep?

Mostly street with some light trails.
Street and trails equally.
Mostly trails with occasional street use.
Trails only.

It's my daily, so I'd like good gas mileage and pick up. I also use it for light trail riding.

4.56 is the most reccomended gear ratio for 33s with the 4.0 and auto trans. For mostly street use and light trails, then 4.10 will be sufficient. But if your gonna fork out the cash for a gear change might as well get the good stuff and go 4.56.

Thanks for the input. I think I'll go with the 4.56. Now I have another question. I can't do both at the same time. The process will take about 3 months. Should I regear first or retire first?

You can run 33s with the stock 3.55 gears, I am. You will notice a lack of acceleration and a loss in gas mileage.

If I regear first, will I burn up my 31's?

Only if your right foot is really heavy. 4.56s turning 31s will be like a freakin rocket. You will definitely feel a difference on take off and when down shifting to pass on the interstate.

Sounds like fun. I have a pretty light foot though. In fact, my girlfriend gives me hell for it.
