Dana 35 to 44 Swap - I know it's been covered to death....but
I have recently picked up a Dana 44 for my 91 XJ and I have been searching literally for weeks for the information I need for the swap.
Specs on the XJ:
4.5" Lift
AW4 Transmission
NP242 TC
No SYE
My questions are in regards to the driveshaft length and the e-brake cables.
I have read many contradicting posts about the D35 driveshaft. I am lifted 4.5 inches. Some say it wil work with my lift, others say it won't. I don't mind finding a 8.25 driveshaft for it, I just want to do it right. I can't find the specs anywhere for the driveshaft length of the 1991 D35 driveshaft. All I can find is 97+ lengths.
I have also read that the e-brake cables will work and other posts that say they won't. The 44 did come with the cables attached, but they look like they could use replacing.
As always I appreciate any assistance.

I did the swap on my 88, but I have the Peugeot 5spd tranny and the 231 transfer case no sye, 1/2" transfer case drop and 4.5" lift. My same driveshaft worked with the 44 but its a little long, at full flex the flange or whatever touches the rear transfer case seal. I used the same e brake cables as well but with the lift they were very tight and popped out of where they're fastened on the drum brake backing plate after a while.
