Many I6 heads will fit. If you want to maintain the ability to bolt down the coil packs, you need a 2000-2006 cylinder head. As you likely know the 2000 and 2001 Cherokee heads were highly susceptible to cracking. (Victim here.) Thus, you would want to avoid those heads which do not have the "TUPY" cast into the top.

I took a look in my notes and found this;
"TUPY heads came on 2002-2004 grand cherokees and 2002-2006 wranglers. " Idk...
Also it may well be that besides the coil mount, there may well be an issue of fitting the 2000 on exhaust manifold, (or both), on an 87-99 head. I've seen posts about using a fabricated adapter plate.
Some guys maybe fabbed a coil-pack mount, and went with the earlier head AND it's manifolds....there may well be smog issues there. I know nothing! Just passing along stuff I've seen here...
