that was a good idea, but that pretty much does rule it out. as long as the brake lights work when applied, and off when they're off.

If I were to have a cruise control for my 99 Cherokee, I believe the fuse is in the fuse box under the hood, just above the battery, you pop the top off, and the diagram is right under the cover.

Well thank you for that. Unfortunately, my diagram only gives me fuse amperages. I do not get functions.

Still looking for help here. Right now I'm looking to determine why the light doesn't come on when you turn on the cruise control. When I bought the jeep, the vacuum canister was disconnected, but the light came on, so I know the light will come on even if the vacuum is not hooked up.

I'll deal with the vacuum when I'm able...when I have power to the cruise control unit. Please help give me ideas of what to check (and where it is) to get me power to the cruise control unit.

Thanks,
s

Did some testing with a voltmeter and I think I found the issue...the cruise control controls (buttons on a bar on the steering wheel. I don't know why it decided to just crap out on me, but whatever. Unfortunately, the JY doesn't have any of these, so I've gotta hunt one down . Anyone wanna send me theirs?

I've got a buddy who just bought a 98 and if he has cruise I'm going to see if I can test his controls on my xj for confirmation. If anyone has a parts XJ with the Cruise controls on the steering wheel, please consider mailing them to 82801.

Thanks,
s

Check the pic below. The switch in red is what I need. Got a spare?

OKC is that complete CC diagram you have, something you can post on the forum??? I have been TS the CC off and on since buying it 4 years ago and I haven't been able to figure it out. All the pieces are there and I've checked fuses and replaced the control switch on the steering column. I here clicking when I turn it on but no worky otherwise. The link holding the cable to the throttle body had been repeatedly Super Glued. What a Dumb *****!! So, I have a good link I got from the same donor XJ I got the Control Switch from. I just need further guidance.

Question UPDATE

UPDATE:

So my cruise had 2 problems:
1. No power to the switch, which I think I determined was due to a faulty switch.
2. Vacuum leak. This is still an issue and I need some help here...

My Vacuum canister got a hairline crack in it when the PO got in a wreck. should I attempt to seal the crack or replace it? The replacement canisters I was able to find at the Junk Yard are different. My model has only one plug in the center of end of the tube. Of the two different models I was able to find at the junk yard, one is the same shape but has 4 ports (2 on each end of hte tube), and the other is a ball with 2 ports.

How can I best make what I have work? Could I try to get rubber stoppers at the hardware store to plug the extra holes on the junk yard parts? If so, which holes do I plug? When I blow on one of the holes, air will come out of the port next to it.

If this doesn't work, how should I try to seal the crack?

Yeah man, that is the part. The problem is that I've pulled 2 off of XJs that were between years 85-01 and there are at least 3 different models of the canister. Hos do I know I'm not going to get the another one that doesn't fit?

Thanks for the help, but is there another option for utilizing one of the three different cannisters I already have (e.g., seal the crack or plug extra holes)?

Yeah you could use some RTV to seal the crack or plug one of the others.. What year model is your XJ? If it's the one in the front bumper they should all be the same as far as I know..Now there is also a vacuum piece under the hood I think as well.

First and foremost, I updated my info so you shouldn't have to continually ask what year my XJ is...My bad. For the record it is a 96.

All vacuum canisters I have pulled were from the same location (inner passenger's side of the front bumper). If I remember when I get home, I'll take photos of each. It is odd to me that there were variations, but it is true and they all came off of XJs.

I'll try the RTV. That is a good idea. When I checked continuity on my switch, I only was able to read power when the 'set' button was pressed and held down. The book says I should have continuous power when the the cruise is set. I'm going to try to seal up a vacuum cansiter and run the cruise while holding the button down. If that works, then I'll know what the issue is.

Well here's the part# the parts manual shows.. 5200 4366. It shows the same part number for 91-96..What model jeeps did you pull these off of? Sorry I am as baffled as you are..I wonder if there were actually different ones depending if you have cruise control or between the 2.5 and 4.0 and the parts manual just doesn't differentiate that..

I got them off of late 80's models and I think I got one off of a 2.5 and the other off of the 4.0. Hopefully the RTV will work and I'll be set. I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Thanks fo the help,

That could be it..in 91 they changed according to the parts manual..You can goto jeepoemparts.com and look up part # 5200 4366 and order one for $10 roughly straight from the dealer.. PM me is you want a copy of the parts manual..
