cross country tow with an 88 ?

Has anyone done any long distance tows with the 4 cyl, 4 speed manual, 4 door, 4wd? Mine is an 88. I need to pull a trailer from Montana to Florida, wondering if it could handle a 6'X12' double axle u-haul, or if I should stick with a 5'X8' single axle?

Need to know total weight with whatever you plan on putting in it. At least a guesstimate. Uhaul trailers are heavy as hell to start with. They build those things bomb proof because they have to survive the worst stuff crappy American drivers can throw at them. If you are talking about the enclosed trailers the 6x12 double axle unit is over 1900lbs empty. The 5x8 Cargo is 900 lbs and probably a much better option. I can't imagine the tow rating on the 2.5L being more than 2000 lbs.

The Utility flat bed trailers are a little lighter but not by much the 6x12 dual axle is 1700 lbs.

The 5x8 utility trailer is actually heavier than the cargo one by 100 lbs weighing in at 1000. That's not going to leave you a lot of headspace for cargo weight wise.
