Crazy Oil Pressure
Just had an oil change in my 2000 Cherokee Sport with the 4.0...had the shop put in "high mileage" 10W-30. before the oil change my oil pressure would peak at about 45-50 under hard accelaration...since the recent oil change, it maxes out the stock OP gauge at 80psi...is this a cause for concern? everything else seems to be working great. Thanks... still new to jeep ownership!

Does it stay pegged only while you are driving, or is it pegged all the time? The oil pressure sending unit is right above your filter, if it is hit hard enough while working in there, the plastic can break from the metal part and cause your gauge to stop working/peg.

When cold mine runs at 80PSI under load, 70 idle, and when its warm it goes to the 40-60 range. If its stuck at 80 always then the sending unit is dead.

it doesnt stay pegged. before the oil change it would max at about 60psi under REALLY HARD acceleration...now under even moderate acceleration is pegs out to 80psi. cold, warm, hot, doesnt seem to make a difference.

if the sending unit was damaged, can that cause any adverse problems if i continue to drive the jeep before getting it fixed?

Check the sending unit and connector for damage, but this is likely a failed sending unit.
This is a VERY common failure on the 4.0
I recommend purchasing this directly from Jeep for the best reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge. Worth the extra $20

Hi guys.....
One of these oil change shops broke my sensor a few months back. They replaced it free on the spot after I assured them I knew THEY broke it.
Last week, while driving home after work on the highway, the gauge spiked to just past 80. After shutting off the Jeep, its drops a little (just below 80). There is minimal movement still on start up, and shut-off. Don't see any movement during acceleration though.....just sits in the same position.
Is my gauge in the cluster broken or is the cheap sensor the oil change place installed faulty?
Thanks.

Replace it with a JEEP unit. I have been swapping out cheap crap aftermarket sending units for a very long time. Go JEEP with this part!
