I chased my tail on a fuel pressure issue with similar symptoms (inconsistent idle no power and back fire through the intake) for 3 weeks because I could not find a rental gauge (i live in a small town). I bought one for $32 off amazon and in 30 seconds found out I had a loose hose clamp in the gas tank so I wasted $200 on unnecessary parts.

if you cant rent one buy on today.
