Well I recently took a trip with the forum to Rausch Creek in PA and within the first 1/2 hour on Saturday I swamped my XJ in the frog hole. I killed the engine right away so I didnt suck in water. All seemed fine until I stopped for dinner on Sunday on the way back. I went to start it and it cranked three times and then started. It's been doing this for the past day. I looked in my intake tube and saw a little splatter but nothing that I thought was major considering it still runs. My alternator is still muddy because I haven't gotten to clean it yet.

I plan on cleaning this tomorrow. I also plan on changing the oil and filter because it is extremely dirty and pulling the plugs and cranking it with the fuel pump relay out so I can try to get anything out if there is dirt inside.

Any other possible suggestions??

And yes I have fuel pressure and plenty of air flow and spark lol I know someone will ask this

my '95 usually has to turn 3 or 4 times to run (or even more occasionally). your 99 shouldnt be much different. i thought mine was weird but i guess not.

and at least you dont have what Mike did haha. (btw his is up and running now, but overheats easily)

Oh man did he replace the water pump?

yeah he replaced it with a crappy airtex waterpump, now hes gonna have to go back and change again with a good one. thats why it overheats.

any progress on your starting issue?

Well I power washed everything today and it only happens every once and awhile. I checked to oil and it was blacker than night so I'll change that friday along with the filter. Still haven't pulled the plugs yet to see what they look like but I'm just gonna buy new ones anyway. (not with denzo aka donzo lol) If that doesn't help I'll change the cap and wires to be extra sure I've got good spark. Could also be my filter cause it is dirty and it might be struggling for air to start, but who knows. Luckily my girlfriends dad has a lift in his garage he's letting me use. He likes to stack his Mercedes on top of one another if you can believe that (both are AMG lol)

by cranking 3 or 4 times do you mean turning over cause if thats what you mean welcome to the jeep 4.0 inline 6. Every jeep i have ever wheeled with does it.

lucky! id love to have a lift to use without my boss charging me for it. haha. what AMGs does he have?

a little tuneup would help, but like newageoutlaw said, 4.0s do that all the time. mine will surprise me sometimes and run as soon as i turn the key.

mine turns over like 10 times... check valve in the fuel pump is bad... just not worth the $100 to fix yet... lol...

Well I just did the fuel pump last summer so I'm really hoping thats not it lol
