Default Question about wick inside distributor

I have an 85 xj with the 2.5l I4. I am replacing the pickup in the distributor and looking in the manual there is a wick located in the center of the upper portion of the shaft that holds the rotor. It feels like it contains oil so I imagine it is to lubricate something. Does this ever need to be reoiled? Just wondering if I should do anything to it while I am in there.

Thanks everyone.

Yes...several drops of motor oil on the felt every so often.
