Default crank cycle

How long is everybody's crank cycle? Mine is 1-2 seconds before the engine will fire. Is that normal? In the morning or when engine is not warm it will take 2 trys and then runs normal.

Turn key and varoom, instant start. Guess mine is an odd ball. Only time I ever had a slow start problem was when I had a weak battery.

Yeah, mine does the 2-3 (sometimes 4) second crank to start, and I finally found out why. Supposedly the valve in the fuel pump that keeps fuel in the line is pretty much crap in the XJ, and all that crank time is is lettin the gas move back up through the line. What I have been doing lately is turnin the key to on and let the pump prime, then start. Longest after doin that is only 2 seconds. But yeah, just another wonderful unique thing about an XJ.

that would explain it. i haven't timed mine but i think its about 5-10 seconds. some times only on the second try.

has any one changed the fuel pump and found out if it starts faster?

Same with my Renix. Gotta love those looks from the people around when they're trying to figure out if it's going to start

My 97 takes around 2 seconds usually...if I do the 3 key cycle pump prime.

the simple reason yours takes longer to start is cause its a renix. A 5-10 second crank is normal, they have to reach 300rpm before they will fire, unlike the 91+ Chrysler system.

my 94 will take 3-4 secs for a week or two then back to 2secs for awhile. Think mine is based on temp. and humidity. gotta love the midwest.......
