CPS Install Issue
 

So I've been have issues with my CPS recently and so I purchased one, NTK brand, part number EH0248. I just installed it and now my engine won't fully start. It cranks and cranks with one or two stutters but that's it. I removed it and reinstalled it focusing on making sure it was fully seated properly and it's still not fully starting. Any idea what might be going on here? All I can think is to reinstall the old one and see if it fires up.

Welp… I just reinstalled the old CPS and it fired right up. 💀💀

That one or NAPA brand would be the one I would try...Sounds like you've got a bad one..Back it goes...

Could of gotten a bad one. As thats the one I used on mine with no issues.I would ohm it (them both out) and see. Could also since you have been having issues wonder if it's a bad wire and by luck when you plugged in the old one again just so happens bent it just right. To ohm them.... copied and pasted below...

Here is the procedure for checking the resistance of the sensor:
Testing Procedure (Resistance Check)

1. Set Multimeter: Set your multimeter to the lowest resistance range (usually 200 or 2000 ohms).
2. Measure Resistance: Measure across the two pins (A & B leads) on the sensor side of the connector.
3. Interpret Results:
   • Good Sensor: The reading should typically be between 125 and 275 ohms. Some specs for specific applications may vary, but this range is standard for this type of sensor.
   • Bad Sensor: If the meter reads "O/L" (Open Loop/Infinity), 0 ohms, or is far outside the 125-275 range, the sensor is likely defective.

I was able to test the CPS with a multimeter and I got zero reading. So it's definitely no good. Got a replacement already on the way. Thanks for your help!

Ok, now that I have another CPS replacement on the way, I still have the original CPS that gives me occasional issues re-installed. My question is about the routing of the wiring, please view the image below. During my previous internet search for videos on how to access and install the CPS I noticed that all of the videos had the wiring routed up into the engine bay. Whereas my CPS routes back down the bell housing. Is this difference in routing due to my Jeep being a 2001? It seems as though this is the only direction to route it. Although the PO did have the wire tucked and sitting directly on top of the bell housing. I just added a heat shield sleeve trying to help in some way but I dont think it is.

Thats what mine looks like. It is supposed to be connected to a bracket on one of the bellhousing bolts but its a total PITA to get to.

Guys…. I just installed the NTK brand CPS replacement and it did the same no start as the previous NTK CPS. I'm so so so so over removing and reinstalling the same old CPS. 💀💀💀

Did you test the (second) replacement one before you put it in?

Where are you getting these things?.. I can guess but it would be interesting.

I did test it before trying to install it, and I got no indication of resistance. So I started digging and found a video where this guy talked about the differences between 2-pin and 3-pin CPSs. For my version, the 3 pin, it actually needs power to operate and therefore it wont show resistance. So, even if thats not accurate info, I decided the only thing left to do was to try and install it and it acted the same way as the previous NTK brand with no start. I've been getting these from Rock Auto.

NTK quality has gone downhill. I have 2 XJ’s that I had to replace the TPS on both, twice before 6 months. Third time I replaced with Standard Motors brand and have had no issues since.

Yeah I just bit the bullet and bought a Mopar CPS for $130 💀💀💀💀💀💀 I can verify that the old one on my Jeep (that is giving me trouble but still allows my jeep to start) is indeed a Mopar brand.
