CPS or CSPS bad?

Some days my 1998 Cherokee would start and some it wont. Now it wont start at all.

I turn the key to the ignition position and the gauges don't work and I can not hear the fuel pump. Now, if I unplug the CSPS (crank shaft sensor) and try again, the pump comes on and the gauges work.

I don't have a lot of cash to "try" new parts so if anyone knows for sure what the problem is.... I would be grateful.

Sorry for the dbl post....
