Default Cooling systems question(s)

I know there are threads, I think I have found most of them.

1. I have the tell tale leak on the drivers side near the bottom side of the radiator. I thought it was going to be the quick connect but its not. It is coming from the lowest hardline connection to the radiator below the large water hose. So my question is, I believe this line is tranny cooler due to the color of fluid coming out, but it looks like its running into the radiator. So does the cooling line run thru the radiator housing up the radiator for the tranny? stock cooler by the way

2. How do I test my electric stock fan to see if it actually works? I have never seen or heard it run.

3. Why does my overflow bottle have overflow every time I drive? any way to combat this.

Sorry FNG here and FN to the whole jeep thing

Yes that is tranny cooler and part of your radiator, It should be all steel at that connection. It might be leaking where rubber meets the steel on the hose and dripping down to that area. I cut the mine and put a cooler infront of radiator and hosed it up to the radiator and got rid of the leaking cplgs.

If you turn on the a/c or defroster, the electric fan should kick on. It is also supposed to come when the coolant temp reaches ~217*.

This is normal. There needs to be coolant in the overflow reservoir so it can maintain pressure in the cooling system. If there is no coolant in the reservoir then an air pocket can get sucked in. What you don't want to see is coolant magically disappearing from your reservoir over a period of time. It should always be the same level with a cold engine (on a level plain.)

R u saying coolant actually overflows out of the bottle? If so, the neck of the bottle could be cracked or the bottle cap could be bad.....or it could be severely over heating.

Another thing that could cause coolant to puke or boil out of the overflow bottle is if your radiator cap is bad.

I presume we're talking about stock '87 XJ which does not have a rad cap, only a bottle cap.

Doh! that makes a big difference. Apologies, some of what I said is not true on the older XJs.
