Default Cooling fan issues

So my cooling fan does not come on until almost into the red on the temp gauge. Have replaced all sensors recently, fan operates normal when ac is on. Checked all wiring , fuses and relays. Could my temp gauge be wrong?

Is this a 1996 XJ you are posting about? That year had a separate sending unit for the gauge. The PCM reads a sensor in the thermostat housing. If you want to verify it use one of those IR/laser thermometer guns and see what the real temp is.

OEM part numbers for the two '96 sensors:

Thermostat housing sensor OEM part number 33004281 - turns fan on.

Sensor (w/gauges) in head, OEM part number 56027012 - gauge read-out.

Yes it's a 96 and I have replaced both sensors. Temp gauge gets up to about 235 before the fan comes on. It runs for about 30 seconds and shuts off. The gauge shows about 215-220 when it shuts off

Verify the actual temperature with a thermometer/temp gun like I mentioned. The gauge in the cab is about as definitive as the weather forecast.

Will have to get one and check it out. It doesn't smell hot or boil out water so I'm guessing the gauge is wrong

So the gauge is not right. But now it's having a whole different problem. Driving down the highway rpm at 2000 the truck wants to hesitate and try's to stall.
