Coolant temp sensor

I have a 94 cherokee country with the HO 4.0 liter and my temp gauge fluctuates when I am on and off the throttle. Does not use coolant or get hot but gauge is not reading right. I've looked at a couple other threads and I saw there are 2 sensors right? I replaced the thermostat and sensor on housing and....no dice! I bought sunpro temp gauge if all else fails

....the temp sensor is the one at the back of your block

indianoutlaw11 09-04-2011 04:18 PM

Where exactly on the block? And what is the one on the housing.. Control sensor?

indianoutlaw11 09-04-2011 04:21 PM

And do both sensors look the same?

Yes the one all the way at the back of the cylinder head on the drivers side is the sending unit. It's only job is to show the temp on the dash gauge. I've broken that thing like 3-4 times working in that area since it's a brittel hard plastic on top. But the good thing is you can just crazy glue it back together and it works. :)

i tried every auto parts store here everybody said gotta order it so had to order

indianoutlaw11 09-04-2011 04:56 PM

Right on! Lol cheap and easy! That's the way I like it! Haha I'm not around my jeep now but I'm almost sure that's the problem. I still might just put a mechanical gauge on it

freegdr 09-04-2011 05:06 PM

there is no mechanical water temp gauge just gauge or light

UsmclovesXJ 09-04-2011 05:14 PM

Until you tighten Down to hard and snap off the gage at the last top thread...i left it in there not worth my time

indianoutlaw11 09-04-2011 05:17 PM

So the sunpro temp gauge won't work?

UsmclovesXJ 09-04-2011 05:22 PM

Post a pic of the part.

That oughta work right? Idk if the tip at the end will be too long but I think that would be the only issue. I'll just mount the gauge below the dash
