Coolant overheating question
Hey guys got a problem and cant seem to fix the problem.
88 Cherokee with what the previous owner says is a 2001 TJ motor which I think its not I still think that its a renix motor, Jeep has about 235,000 miles on it.
New Rad, Water pump, clutch fan, thermostat 195, all new and it stills seems to run one tick after 210 which I think is about 220 or 230. I took the thermostat out and it runs 210. The electric fan is wires manually which the previous owner did. Don't know what else it could be. Maybe the gauge is bad in the cluster put once I put the fan on it does cool the motor down. Sitting in traffic it gets to almost the red. I know that these motors get warm but not that warm and I even have hood vents in there too.
Any help would be great guys

Have you done a pressure test to see if you have any weak spots?
And if it getting that hot you could have a block somewhere or a faulty t stat ( I have bought a bad one before).

Double check temps with a IR Gun? You may have a blockage in your coolant ports. Did you properly burp the system? Did you flush the heater core? if it is heating up at idle with the thermostat out, that tells me you have a flow problem, or air in the system. boil your thermostat. it should pop open just before boiling temp.

Your temp gauge may be wonky. Many are.
Verify with an IR first.
Do you still have the pressure bottle set up?

no I switched to the open style. I did burp the system, didn't flush the heater core but did the rest, I may flush again this jeep had a lot of mud and stuff caked to it from the pervious owner. I will check with a IR gun to see what it is reading thanks guys

Thanks guys I put a IR gun on it and it was reading normal 210 and the gauge in the dash would sit right before red so now I know that the gauge is reading wrong on the dash.
