coolant leak

Have a mysterious water leak on my 86 jeep Cherokee. It has the 2.5L fuel injected motor. It is leaking water somewhere on the back of the motor. I checked the back if the head and all around the sides. can't see it anywhere but underneath coming out the bell housing on the tranny. What am I missing. It leaks the same weather the engine is running or not. Im going to check the compression tomorrow to rule out the head gasket being blown. If you got some ideas please help. Thanks

I believe there is a freeze plug in the Bell housing that may have rusted through.
