Control Arm Bushings?
 

I have a 92 XJ with 6" Rustys lift running 33X12.50 tires. I would like to replace both the upper and lower control arm bushings. Rustys told me that their control arms use OEM bushings. I am looking for some poly bushings. Does any one know the part numbers I need?

First off I will start by saying I have done extensive research and searching. I have read all articles and have done hours of troubleshooting.
This jeep has horrible death wobble. I am hoping that this will fix the death wobble I have been suffering from for years. I stopped driving this jeep 5 years ago due to the wobble. Recently I decided I needed to get back on the horse and fix the beast. I have taken it to every shop in town and no one can help me or tell me what to do.

Adjustable track bar
Steering Stabilizer
IRO OTK Conversion
New Tie rod end on trac bar
alignment
new tires
balanceing
tightened all nuts and bolts
visual inspections for hours on all components
taken to every shop in town

I am at a loss as to what to do next. I am hoping the bad bushings on the control arms will fix it. I am at a loss as to what to do and this is about to drive me insane please help before I intentially crash this ***** into a wall...:hang:

How do you like those bushings?

started working on my DS LCA and what a ***** it has been to remove the old bushings. I used the propane torch and got the damn thing out but what a stinking mess it made. I have been fighting with the remaining inside gunk for hours trying to scrape it out and clean it up. I tries burning it out and the metal brush method which resulted in a huge mess and ruined brush.

Is there a better route to take? I am going to try and get the new bushings on this arm pressed in today but damn what I thought would be a couple hour ordeal has turned into a major project.

Let me know how the bushings worked for the cure of your DW, I have been battling the same problem...i've done

adjustable trac bar
alignment
adj lower control arms
tires
HD steering box
drop pitman arm

only thing I have left is adj upper control arms and all TRE's in the front end if the upper's don't work.

I looked at your youtube vid and your front wheels move exactly like mine do when it wobbles. Let me know if the upper bushings make a difference!! Thanks & good luck

Ball joints, hub bearings? I had the same wobble you have. I had my tires rebalanced, replaced my tre's, ball joints and hub bearings (they were way bad), then had another alignment done and it is solid as a rock.

Dude, I've been through it for the past two years. I replaced everything with new Moog parts and still had the same problem. I mean everything. Had the control arm bushungs tac welded in cause they wouldn't stay in their holes. Finally found a great little Alignment shop and found some parts that I had already changed were bad from the store. ie... right upper and lower ball joints and I didnt get the track bar tie end tight enough in it's hole. Sometimes we'll get bad parts from the store and we don't know it. Ask around and find that small specialized alignment shop and ask if they can help. I'm in Dayton Ohio and have a great one to recommend.

I would go with OE bushings.


The polyurethane bushings have sliding contact between the bushing and the inner metal sleeve, which causes them to wear out and get sloppy. And they are too stiff, so when the axle articulates the poly bushing will bind.


OE bushings are double-bonded, meaning the rubber is bonded to the inner metal sleeve and the outer metal shell. As the suspension moves, the OE bushing flexes with no sliding contact. It is a far superior design.

i didnt see it on you list but how about your pitman arm...mine was bad...it rocked up and down...changed it out and got rid of most of the wobble

OE as in original equipment? Where would be the best place to get a full set of these for my '92?

TRE = tie rod end?

im in the process of replacing all my bushings and ball joints...yea its a pain in the butt but totally worth the ride after its done!!!

The lower control arm bushings made a huge difference I can now drive it daily without a worry. I still have to do the upper bushings. My bushings in the LCA were almost gone entirely. I am so relieved that I can drive my jeep now!

I also plan on replacing the ujoints, ball joints, and hubs. I am slowly buying up all the parts I will need as funds are available. I figure once I got it all apart I might as well change out everything.

I would be inclined to suggest getting them from a stealer, but I have seen Moog aftermarket bushings available too, and inexpensive. You might want to start with rockauto.com as a pricing reference.
