Connection Identification

Hello everyone. I have a 98’ Sport. I had disconnected my battery to work on electrical things and decided to move it out. I noticed a connection that sits behind the battery and it was almost completely deteriorated. Assuming at some point battery acid may have spilled on it. Didn’t notice it when I installed the new battery years ago. Does anyone know what this connector is for/ where I can buy one. Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Check the resistivity of the wires. It might just be the encasing plastic that is worn.

I’ll give them a test. If all is good would you recommend wrapping it in electrical tape?

No. I'd worry that electrical tape will only block almost off of the external water. Once some water enters I'd fear that it would be better at preventing the water from escaping, though.

Looks like dirt, mostly. Wires still look ok. Hit it with some electrical cleaner and a soft brush, see what you get. Can always disconnect it and clean it again if you like.
