Cold Air Intakes
Ok, so I built my "homebrew" cold air kit the other day, and I am curious to see if it's "up to snuff" with the aftermarket/ other home built kits. If any of you have aftermarket or home built cold air kits please post pics and a general list of materials used. I'll post some of mine tomorrow as it's dark out and the squito's are out in force at the moment.

if you search homemade cold air intake on here it will come up with alot of threads

I hacked the crap outta my air box to get the massive K&N cone filter to fit. I took some thin metal and pop rivits and did a FULL heat shield. Not just a baffle like most kits. I'm gonna go to the jy soon and get another box I can swap out for when I do mudding and wheeling with anywater. Right now it's my DD so no water, no mud (no where where it's legal anymore) just fire roads.

True cold air intakes on 4WD vehicles sounds retarded to me. To really pull in cold air the filter must be drawing air from outside the engine bay and most kits simply hang the cone right behind the headlight or have it pull air from beneath the engine compartment. Either way even hitting a deep puddle at 20mph you stand a good chance of sucking tons of water through your intake.
Cherokees are not sports cars anyways my engine is totally stock and im happy with the amount of power it makes. If you do run a CAI be sure to switch back to stock before you go wheeling. |
