Hard starting, trouble staying on. It sounded like a tune up was needed, so oil, filter, plugs and still the same. So new ignition coil and fuel pressure test (20 psi) and still the same!!!!! Any ideas?

Your fuel pressure should be 49.2 psi +/- 5 psi.

20 psi is death warmed over.

Replace fuel pump module with a Bosch or Carter fuel pump module assembly.

Cheers

Listen to CCKen. He has this one pegged. Fuel pressure is less than half what it should be. You must start here.

Do not install an Airtex fuel pump. Do a simple Google search if you want to find out why. They have a bit of a reliability problem with the pumps that they manufacture for the Jeep XJ.

Airtex fuel pumps have been repackaged under a different brand names so watch out.
