Default code p0158

my jeep started showing p0158 a few days ago. i know that the code has to do with the o2 sensor after the cat. will replacing the o2 sensor most likely fix the problem? also would i need to get an upstream or downstream o2 sensor?

That's the Bank 2 Sensor 2 one. Mine did that last month and I changed just that one just to have the Bank 2 Sensor 1 code come up. Usually you're supposed to replace both sensor at a time because sometimes their finicky and want to throw codes if there is a different brand or whatever in the other position.

The ones on Bank 1 haven't thrown codes as of yet and it's been over a week since the ones on Bank 2 have been changed.

Also, sensor 2 is the downstream sensor, 1 is the upstream. Bank 2 is the rear side of the exhaust manifold.

P0158 Bank 2 Sensor 2 high voltage. This is the rear-most downstream sensor, reading the output of cyls 4-6.

High voltage is usually either a bad sensor or a short in the wiring harness. With the heat of the exhaust, melted wires are not unheard of!

That said the O2 sensors wear out and clog up overtime and all are regular maintenance items. Good for around 100k.

Nice Jeep, Ken! You name him Eugene?

No, that's Eugene the Jeep from an old Popeye cartoon strip. Apparently, Olive Oil gave Popeye a gift of Euegene.

One story of how the Jeep got its name was from Eugene in the cartoon strip.

Google Eugene the Jeep.

You're from Michigan. We can bond over how cold it is and how much salt they put on the roads!
