Coastal Full Synthetic gear oil for LSD
So i went to my local farm store to pick up gear oil to change diff fluid in my new to me xj. I bought full synthetic 75w-90 gear oil from coastal (warren co.). It says its for limited slip which I got as a just in case measure. Got under my jeep and found a limited slip tag on my dana 35. Pulled the cover and it is the lsd carrier. I was wondering if I needed heavier gear oil, or if I had to get the modifier for lsd. The bottle says for full limited slip differential. And the only thing i found was someone posting an msds sheet on bobtheoilguy saying it can be used for compete fill up of lsd. Any help?

I ended up having to go back the parts store anyway, new girl gave me a 8.25 gasket instead if the d35. I just picked up some addative while in there. $8 insurance.

Do not add the additive if the diff does not "chatter" in a tight turn. The additive allows the clutch packs to slip more.....making the diff perform more like a "open" diff. Keep that traction enhanced diff working like it's supposed to.....don't use gear oil with the additive and if it does chatter in a turn, add only 1/2 tube of additive.....if it still chatters in a turn, add the other 1/2 tube.

If that's what u decide to do, use a gear oil that has no additive. Do some tight figure 8s and listen for clutch chatter coming from the diff. If there's none (chatter), u r good to go. If there's chatter, then add 1/2 tube of additive and check again doing tight figure 8s.

Right now I'm trying to get it all put back together and all the fluids changed. I am looking for a rear extension housing for my transfercase so I can put the drive shaft back in and drive it.
