Clutch petal snapped... Now what?!?
 

I really don't have the best luck with my jeep.....

I went to go push in the clutch petal while driving to work and SNAP.... No clutch. It completely snapped the metal in half (see picture).

So my question is now what? How do I even fix this? Can it be welded or do I have to try and find a whole new petal assembly somewhere? can the clutch petal be removed and replaced without taking the full assembly out of the jeep?
I am seriously at a loss of what to do right now... Any input is very much appreciated.

don't drive like your in "the fast and the furious" and granny shift!!!! I've taken the brake pedal assembly out of my xj's a number of times.. i can't imagine it being all the more difficult to do... so your gonna have to remove it Obviously but i would deff call around for some salvage yards and look for a replacement

Holy ****, never seen that happen before. How much resistance did your clutch have??? Must have been like trying to compress a coil spring with your foot. Might be able to weld it back.. doubt you could do it without burning everything under the dash from the slag. I would try the junk yard as he said. Just pull the whole assembly just in case, never know what you might need.

Just pull out the assembly and weld the pedal back on, welding it would take all of 30 seconds. Beats scrounging around the junkyard and having to disassemble another one and pay for it.

Go grab yourself some zip ties, JB weld, and duct tape. You'll rule the world.

Please fix it the right way.

At the very minimum get it welded by someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks guys.... It was seriously the weirdest thing. I wasn't driving it hard or anything. I pressed in the clutch normally to shift in to 3rd and it felt just like it does normally, and then when I went to shift in to 4th the clutch petal was stuck to the floor. So i pulled over, looked underneath and tried to pull the petal back, and That's when it completely broke off. I would have thought that there would be resistance or at least something, but there wasn't. I just don't understand how that could even snap like that?

I looked around locally and there was no petals at the salvage yard. Can I just replace the clutch petal? Or does the whole assembly with the brake petal have to be replaced as well? I didn't get much time to look at it other then taking that picture. I was on my way to work when it happened.

I'll take it apart and see if its not messed up and bent. Hopefully I can just have it welded

The EXACT same thing just happened to me a few hours ago in my 88 Cherokee. Snapped in the same spot.

It sucks doesn't it!! Haha But yeah I fixed it! Just pulled the bolt that goes through the center out, then the petal just drops out. I just picked up another petal at a salvage yard and put it back in. I'm sure you can probably weld it, but I don't have a welder so a replacement was the only logical choice.

Same thing happened to me in my cherokee very easy to swap that peddle out. Sucks driving 33's with no clutch

I removed the pedal and had a friend weld the break.
A bit awkward getting at that bolt...!... but it's back together and on the road.

Looking at the pic in the first post, it's easy to see that it broke right where the weld stopped on both ends of the bead that goes around the top.

Had that been welded all the way around at the factory, it may not have failed like that.

It looks like it would be easy to re-weld, beefing it up a little as well.

YUP! This is exactly what my buddy told me as he finished up the re-weld. He imagined that the part was originally welded by a machine arm/conveyor belt deal, hence the one sided weld. Good call.
