Default Clutch issues... Please help

I'm a mechanic and this one has me stumped. When I rebuilt my 89 Cherokee just about 2 years ago I put in a new clutch, and slave cylinder. I bled and bled and bled that clutch and never got it to engage at the top like it's supposed to. So i replaced the master cylinder and it bled it several more times and still the same results. It would work fine for a while and then loose all pressure so I would pump the petal several more times and the pressure would come back. I then replaced the master cylinder again because the other one was leaking, but still it would only engage 1/4-1/2 way off the floor. So I basically just lived with it. Then recently my slave cylinder blew up so I bought a 200$ high quality slave cylinder and a new clutch hose. I then put thread sealant on every connection and then bled the system a bunch more. This time the pressure would vary. Sometimes it would feel very solid and engage at the top like it should, then the next time I would shift the pressure would be gone and It would engage right off the floor. I bled it again and again and it still has never worked. Its been 2 years and i have yet To be able to rely on my clutch. I'm beyond frustrated and need help. Is my second new master cylinder bad? Also after a few days the fluid in the master cylinder turns black. Like I said, I have a good high quality slave cylinder and a new hose. Any tips or ideas? Thanks

Yeah it sure sounds like it could be the slave. However when the master goes out the same thing can happen too. Is the fluid gone from the master cylinder? Have you noticed any brake fluid leaking from
The bell housing?
