Clutch Fan
Is it possible to mount the fan blade to the fan clutch backwards? If so what are the symptoms? Thanx.
|
maybe its possible but if you do manage that the hot air will go in reverse meaning it would blow hot air back into the rad lol.
|
Yea I'm just wondering if I put on backwards after I did a cooling system overhaul. I'm running temps over 220 and every cooling component is brand new, when before with the old leaky radiator I was just below 210. There is no air in the system I burped it.
I hope it's not my new radiator. |

I did a overhaul because on days when it was 90-100 outside the jeep would run around 220 and I noticed the radiator had little leaks starting hissing and leaking on the passenger side. But on cooler days days the jeep wouldn't get hotter than 210.
replaced; -radiator -radiator cap (16psi) -upper and lower radiator hoses -water pump -thermostat -thermostat housing -fan clutch |
also new overflow tank and line.

Verified temps with an IR gun? Have you tested for exhaust gases in the coolant yet? Or coolant in the oil?
Sounds like you've replaced almost everything at this point, minus the temp sender... |
hi.
if you still have the old radiator cap, you can use it to get the air out of your cooling system. by removing the valve that opens when the engine get cold, so coolant can go back to the engine. the open cooling system dont work properly if its still lot of air in the system. try it, this work every time on my 242 amc. when your done put the new radiator cap on. |
That radiator is a 2 row core and is only 1-5/16 thick that core is thickness the same as most stock 1 row radiators . look at the champion 2 row all aluminum it has a 2 inch thick core . I have this radiator and today it was 105 and my engine temp was still at the thermostat temp 195 and does not run hot any more . and it cost less then the one you got . it also has a lift time warranty .

VERIFY things first.

So I verified everything and the fan is on the correct way and belt is routed properly(I knew it couldn't be this easy haha) no exhaust gas and no oil in the coolant. I did replace the temp sensor and didn't change anything. Could it really be my new radiator? I do have the heater core bypassed just because I wanna flush it out again.
The only reason why I did the overhaul is because the old radiator starting leaking and the coolant was in terrible condition. My temps before was 210 around town and below that on highway. Now I'm 220-230 all the time. There is a long downhill part of my daily commute and when going down this hill the jeep cools down to 210. |
From a little more research sounds like I have a problem with coolant flow. My lower hose does not collapse and most people with my same problem replaced the radiator and all was good, so maybe it's my new radiator. I'm going to add a bottle of flush and see if it maybe will help before I get another radiator. What a pain in the a$$!

Anyways just an update.
I did replace my new CSF radiator with a Spectra radiator from Pepboys its the same radiator that AutoZone sells but Pepboys has it for $30 off right now and with lifetime warranty. Now my Jeep runs at the temps it should just under 210. Thanx for all the help! |
