cloged or dirty cat, can it be cleaned or does it have to be replaced?
 

i just hit 200,000 miles and i know i have the stock cat on it. and i know it's probabbly rusted out on the inside and clogg or what ever. is their any way to get it unclogged or cleaned. or do i have to replace it, while i do persume it is easier to replace.

also please i just got a closed thread cause u guys were talking about removing the cat. let me say im not removing the cat, im keeping it just wanted to know if i could save the cat for till summer then ill get the whole exhaust changed out then. please don't talk about removing it.

Nope cat can't be cleaned once they go bad and start clogging it's replacement time. You can get a good high flow cat for around $100 or less and in most cases if you get a direct fit you can do it yourself.

so i need to replace my cat, and i was thinking i might as well get a new straight pipe welded on while im at it.

so i need a new cat and i have a cherry bome glass pack on my stock system, so i was thinking y not dump the old piping and run a new exhaust (ill get a new exhaust manifold in the summer).

so where can i get the stainless steel pipe for a straight pipe (cause the shops around here charge a fortune to weld up a straight pipe).

in fact my dad told me that he put on a copper pipe on his old triumph back in britan and it was the best sounding thing he ever owned (he's owned 30ish cars, 12motorcycles, and 2planes).

so besides stainless steel and copper and other good materials i could consider for the straight pipe?
also what size pipe should i get to make it sound really loud?

You said you installed a CherryBomb and that it wasn't sounding the way it was supposed to at WOT.
There are two ways to install a CherryBomb. Each way will give a different outcome.

Has to do with the louvered baffles inside.
Baffles facing towards exhaust flow will give a mellow throaty sound.
Baffles facing with exhaust flow will give the annyingly harsh sound that people associate with a CherryBomb.

If a catalytic converter starts to clog, it is very noticable.
Drop in MPG.
Increased hesitation.
Poor performance.
Increased running temperature.

And worst-case scenario--> glowing external case. Had that a time or two with other vehicles.

A catalytic converter is a sealed unit that encases a perferated core.
There is no way to clean it. Only option is replacement. When catalytic converters first came out, they used a pelletized catalyst. This catalyst was able to be removed and refilled. But the catalyst was so poisonous that no-one wanted to deal with disposing of it. Hence the catalytic converters of today, where the catalyst stays put in an easy to handle package.

High-flow catalytic converters can be purchased rather inexpensively if yours requires replacement.

What is your meaning concerning "Straight pipe"? Is this to circumvent the muffler or cat? Neither is recommended. It is illegal to circumvent the cat BTW.

I know I have to have the cat on by law, guess I shouldnt have said straight pipe, what I ment was I wanna run a pipe off the back of a cat and a cherry bomb just wondering what to use

shop around for muffler shops. A lot of places do nice work for cheap and dont mind if you bring in your own stuff. Nothing beats a properly welded exhaust. It's nice not having to worry about it falling off.
