Default clip inside 8.25 axle

In the picture below there is a bolt and clip outlined in red. Can someone tell me what this is for? I had to removed it and want know if I need to put it back in a special position or if it has any special requirements.

Don't know, but I'm curious myself. I've had the cover off mine a few times and always wondered about this.

Could it have something to do with the carrier bearing adjuster things, maybe to keep them in their place?

Having the ARB line run round the bottom is not an ideal situation. The gear oil can cause it to deflect into the ring gear while rotating and then the line will be crushed, sheared, mangled. I'm not saying it will happen, just that it can.
