Clicking in drive

my 2000 xj 4.0 i6 automatic with 126,xxx on it, has been making a clicking/ticking whenever I drive.

Could this be the chain inside of the t-case, if not what could it be?

Thanks

It could be, but I suppose there are a lot of possibilities. Does the noise change from 2hi - 4hi - 4lo?

The reason that lead me to believe it was something with my t-case was because my 4-low doesnt work it sounds terrible/grinding,etc. and my 4-high works but makes loud grinding sounds when i use it so i have avoided it until i can get it figured out. the sounds it makes in 4 are completely different than this normal/steady clicking/ticking while i drive.

Way to many possibilities.
Ujoints can click, squeak, and bind when going out. There is just one possible.

would getting a used t-case for $200-$300 be better than trying to point out each individual thing it would be?
