Default Clearwater vs Promaxx

Yeah, there are several threads out there discussing clearwater and promaxx, formerly alabama. But man, they seem to be 50/50. Fining a TUPY head seems to be a challenge as well.

$500 is a chunk of change, when you add in the gasket kits needed. Which would you choose? Just want to make sure I make the right choice. I noticed that quadratec sells the promaxx heads...

Thanks

Also, what head gasket is recommended for the swap?

I just finished replacing my the head on my 2001 with a Clearwater head. Have about 600 miles on it so far. No complaints at all. Was $445 shipped. I used Fel-Pro gasket kit HS9076PT4. $93.79 from RockAuto.

I bought the Promaxx head from Quadratec, only got about 400 miles on it. My machinist said it was ok. The only thing is the shipping container, it was flimsy & no packing material.

I've got like 4 years on my Clearwater. It's been on 2 different jeeps as well.

Had it surfaced before it went on the second jeep.

Not a single problem with it!

I just passed 2500 miles on my Clearwater. I am fairly impressed with it. It passed vac test, pressure test, and straight edge.

Looks like a lot of new parts and machining. There were some rough edges that if I had more time with it I would have smoothed out. Yet i didn't. I think I got mine for $450 shipped if you search for clearwater on ebay. (even though they sell it for $500 on their website and its the same exact head they send you)
